"We will not abandon our values."
Sustainability, environmental protection, diversity, and inclusion: These fundamental tasks and values for society seem to be facing headwinds at the moment. However, for the Otto Group, it is clear: These values are part of our DNA. CEO Alexander Birken takes a strong stance in German newspaper Handelsblatt.
In a conversation with Florian Kolf, Alexander Birken emphasizes that the Otto Group remains committed to its values:
Sustainability & Environmental Protection
"I still consider climate protection to be one of the most pressing issues for humanity." The Otto Group will not change its sustainability goals, "because we are convinced of them."
Diversity & Inclusion
"We are not going to abandon our values due to political pressure from certain directions. [...] They are part of this company." The Otto Group has advocated for diversity in the past and will continue to do so.
Product Quality & Safety
"We do not offer products where we are not sure they comply with German and European rights [...]." He expects authorities to enforce existing laws and regulations.
Furthermore, Alexander Birken discusses the need for incentives to increase investments in Germany, which require "visionary, future-oriented, ambitious, and [...] sustainable" conditions, as well as his desire for more confidence in the country. We should become a "beacon" again.
